Having just bought an apartment in Bay View near to Makrigialos I stayed last September and found Crete to be one of the friendliest places I have ever visited. I am excited to be going again in October, I want to explore the walking, local sites and beaches and make some recomendations for people renting my apartment. This website will be the first thing I recommend - it is very helpful - thank you!

We came back!

Hi, since 1996 we have been fortunate to visit Makrigialos but with the the demise of Kosmar Villa Holidays we thought that these days were numbered.  Last Christmas our friends broached the idea of going back to see how the village was fairing with the loss of one of the main travel agents.  We found this website and using its fantastic links organised our own holiday.  That was back in August and resulted in a party of 6 adults and 4 children spending between 2 and 3 weeks on the resort.

I cannot say how grateful we were for Mark's help in liaising with Maria at Palmira Studios where 6 of us stayed and the hospitaility he provided when camped out on the beach in front of the Gecko Bar.  The site also allowed our other friends to organise the Villea Village reservation.

We are pleased to say the holiday met all of our expectations and brought back fond memories of previous holidays and we are commited to making our regular visits a reality again.

The beauty of Makrigialos is it is quiet, it has a fantastic beach, the villagers are welcoming and there are plenty of restaurants to eat out in the evening.  The advantage of the demise of Kosmar is the visiting holiday makers are more cosmopolitan and the Greeks seem to have reclaimed it for their breaks; which is no bad thing.  So if you want a quiet relaxing holiday this is the place.

There is a popular perception that the temperatures in Makrigialos are always five degrees centigrade warmer than elsewhere on the island. With the installation of a weather station early in 2008, it is possible to see how the weather in Makrigialos, on the south-eastern coast, compares with Heraklion, 50 miles (80km) away as the crow flies, on the north coast.
